One thing I liked about the old whaletailtalk forum was the ability to "like" posts, a la facebook. It's a convenient way for people to show their appreciation and it's a more accurate means of feedback than the view counter, which shows how many people have seen a thread but doesn't gage reaction to the content. I feel like a lot of people are reluctant to take the time and effort to sign in and think up a comment, so they just lurk and let their additional "view" speak for its self, which as I mentioned, doesn't give the OP any insight into whether you liked the content or not. I think the addition of a like button will ease lurkers into creating accounts and, eventually, participating in a greater capacity. It will also encourage more users to post content because their effort will be validated by positive feedback represented by likes.
