I guess it can be hard to gauge who is imitating whom, but I suspect that when it comes to thongs, Argentinians probably looked to Brazil first. Obviously, thongs have existed forever in various forms, but since the trend of the modern thong largely came out of Brazilian beach fashion, I wouldn't be surprised if Argentina had their first "thong boom" at the same time, if not earlier than Europe/North America. Some quick googling supports this theory, but cold hard numbers on this topic are difficult to come by, so I'm not gonna say it's for sure.Another business/leisure trip, this time to Buenos Aires, Argentina... This might be why the fashion is a little more European-influenced as there are more tight leather pants and rompers and whatnot. Maybe the Europeans also brought the thong culture over as well.
Thong-meta is a great word, I like it. Truly a groundbreaking idea or concept for this "sociology of thong underwear" that I feel parts of this forum is starting to create.
So I just quickly browse through what the other girls had hanging there, and to my complete amazement it was 3 pairs of "regular" style underwear, and the rest (15-ish pairs) are thongs (no cheekies, no brazilians - thongs).
And these are not even close to your supermodel girls, just "normal" women, more towards the nerdier side, two of them with university degrees, the third one working in a book shop. One of them a bit more chubby, but the other two are active and in good shape. However, they are not the type where I would have guessed thongs being their go-to style-of-underwear.
